【摘要】:Masonryunitsandmasonryspecimensaresometimesremovedaspartofanassessmentoftheconditionofmasonryconstruction.Thisdocumentisintendedtostandardizethepreparationofsuchunitsandmasonryspecimensforcompressivestrengthtesting.Note18212;Masonryspecimensremovedfromexistingmasonryconstruction(singlewythe,multi-wytheorportionsthereof)willsometimescontainmortar,grout,reinforcement,oraccessorymaterials.Thispracticeprovidesinformationpertainingtotheremovalofhardenedmortar,cleaning,andotherspecialpreparationrequiredpriortocompressivestrengthtestingofamanufacturedmasonryunitormasonryspecimenthathasbeenremovedfromusage.Thispracticedoesnotaddresstestproceduresortheuseoftestresultsconductedonremovedspecimens.Thispracticedoesnotdeterminewhetherremovedmasonrymaterialsmetoriginalspecificationrequirements.Note28212;Compressivestrengthtestresultsofmasonryunitsandmasonryspecimensextractedfromthefieldareexpectedtovaryfromandwilllikelybelessthancompressivestrengthtestresultsofmasonryunitsthathavenotbeenplacedinserviceormasonryprismsthathavebeenconstructedwithinacontrolledenvironment.Comparisonofresultsoftestsconductedonspecimensremovedfromservicetothoseofmasonryunitspriortouseorofconstructedprismsisdifficult.Considerablejudgmentistypicallyrequiredfortheselectionandpreparationofspecimensremovedfromservice.1.1Thepurposeofthispracticeistostandardizethepreparationofmanufacturedmasonryunitsandmasonryspecimensextractedfromthefieldforcompressivestrengthtestinginalaboratoryenvironment.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesandtodeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
